Rojo I Negro
Red - Black
The strike, besides being a cannibal strike, is also a cosmological strike, an autochthonous strike, an indigenous strike, and a local strike. The strike represents cultural autonomy and social well-being.
The strike is the only option to a way out, the necessity to eat art, to digest, to renew, and to re-create Latin American artistic objects. The strike is a stance, a gesture, and a position against the concepts that exist in the art establishment as the only possible exit. I am taking a stance against art objects, and their visual establishment defined in Latin American contemporary art.
Artists cannot produce Latin American contemporary art if they just follow art production inside the mainstream pattern, and its professionalization system. Ite et inflamate it is not our artistic goal. Latin American artists must be antropófagos (cannibals). We never know when we finish to devour ourselves; the strike is an infinite strike.
The Strike is a Strike. It is not an object; it is not a material and palpable art object. The flag is not an artistic contemporary representation, extracted form daily life and re-inserted or post-conceptualized inside of the art world; the Strike is a Strike.
The Strike represents new ways of thinking. The strike is a behaviour, an attitude, and a confrontation.
The strike is on. There is no sense for the strike to produce objects if the objects become trinkets. Artists whom reinsert their art production in the same contemporary art apparatus as “resistance artworks” change nothing. Artists and their artistic institutional parallelism inside the art world, and their rhetorical baroque as conceptual research, change nothing; today, I propose to eat art flesh! Lets make a cannibal procession!
Strike does not mean a vacuous artistic rebellion inside the art world. Strike does not produce art-by-art institutions when just a few observers think that they are the only people that understand art objects. Genuine local art does not produce art objects like social placebos. The Strike tries to forge a new insurrection in Latin American art.
La Huelga está en pie, caminamos, defendemos, devoramos, pensamos, y producimos.
(The Strike is on, we walk, we defend, we devour, we think, and we produce)
