Merging Perceptions
Gallery 1515
Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Merging Perceptions is an exploration into connections between two cities – Vancouver and Mexico City. The works in this exhibition consider how two urban societies consume images and visual information by adapting the sandwich board, typically seen on the streets of Vancouver, and merging it with the visual iconography of sign paintings, often seen painted on walls, highways and large public avenues in Mexico City for the purposes of promoting political campaigns, concerts, and events. Merging Perceptions is an experimental exercise that seeks to combine and understand two different elements of urban visual communication while reflecting the lived experience of adapting to life in Vancouver while carrying the cultural background of having grown up in Mexico City.
